A lot of Christians live a life of fear that there is the threat of Hell always looming over every mistake they make or over some outward thing about their life. That believe God must be appeased or He will punish them and make them suffer and that ultimately He does not really love them or will withhold His love and goodness over the slightest infraction.
This kind of living is not only damaging to the Body of Christ, this testimony of such believers makes for a poor witness to those who wrestle with the same fears but are not yet believers of Christ.
Sadly, many Christians do not grasp the full scope of the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. They act many times as if the blood will wear or wash off or that it’s redemptive power is only good if they are doing their part to make it work or maintain it.
As Christians, we need to repent of this – in other words we need to change our thinking and pray for greater revelation concerning the depths of power that is found in the blood of Jesus Christ. A good place to pray from is Ephesians chapter 1 concerning this.
Unknowingly, by living this way, in their minds they dilute the power of the blood of Jesus Christ applied to their lives. This is so often caused by religious thinking rather than having revelation. Religious thinking is a counter-agent against the truth of the unfathomable power of the blood of Jesus Christ. Paul the apostle emphatically addresses this in the scriptures:
3 O you poor and silly and thoughtless and unreflecting and senseless Galatians! Who has fascinated or bewitched or cast a spell over you, unto whom—right before your very eyes—Jesus Christ (the Messiah) was openly and graphically set forth and portrayed as crucified?
2 Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the [Holy] Spirit as the result of obeying the Law and doing its works, or was it by hearing [the message of the Gospel] and believing [it]? [Was it from observing a law of rituals or from a message of faith?]
3 Are you so foolish and so senseless and so silly? Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh?
They live a life that is devoid of real intimate relationship with God because they do not know His heart towards them. God is not in the business of desiring to send people to Hell, making people grovel before Him or punish them. He is in the business of making people His children, and making His children into Kings and Priests who will rule and reign with power and authority beside Him both in this life and the next.
The simple truth is, that God desires that ALL should be saved and has absolutely NO desire that ANYONE should go to hell, but rather that we would experience abundant life and His love and Goodness and there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God.
In fact, did you know that God Himself is not responsible for anyone going to Hell? Oh that sounds almost like heresy to religious thinking doesn’t it? Truth be told, God does not send people to Hell just because He has a whim. People make a choice to go to Hell themselves by consciously rejecting Christ, who was punished, died and even went to Hell for us. He conquered them all (sin, death and hell) and has provided the atonement for righteousness and holiness, everlasting life and complete freedom from sin and it’s punishment.
God however, made us to be beings that have free will and to make our own choices because love requires free will to be given. God cannot force Himself upon us and even though many will go to Hell because of their choice, it does not negate that God loved them and did everything He could do to offer them freedom and life.
There is nothing you need to do to appease God by your works in your own abilities to gain His acceptance and love and there is no terror, condemnation or fear of punishment to be experienced in relationship with God.
Everything has been provided to us through Jesus Christ. Our acceptance of Him by simple faith forever nullifies the threat of Hell and gives us the full inheritance of a son of God.
Don’t believe me? What does God Himself day about these things in His Word?
Concerning the Threat of Hell:
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.
John 10:10 (Jesus Himself speaking)
10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it [overflows).
What Jesus did on the cross not only is enough to save you from Hell, it is enough to keep you from Hell and to live a life that is fully righteous and full of grace and power to live holy.
Righteousness comes not from good works, but good works come from righteousness!
Simple faith and trust in Christ as your savior is what is required for salvation not your ability to do good deeds; complete trust from a love relationship with Him which He Himself initiates!
8 For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;
Concerning Fear of Punishment:
God is not looking for a reason to punish you nor is He in the business of withholding His love or goodness from you. God is not a God of Karma. Karma is not a concept any person should confuse with the nature and personality of God and is a lie that Christians should avoid embracing:
1 John 4:18
18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection].
8 Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.
Finally, nothing can separate you from the love of God. Not any situation, not any mistake not any failure.
God’s love for you is 100% at 100% of the time. God loves you the way that He love Jesus – the way He loves Himself. He is ALWAYS working for your benefit and good!
35 Who shall ever separate us from Christ’s love? Shall suffering and affliction and tribulation? Or calamity and distress? Or persecution or hunger or destitution or peril or sword?
36 Even as it is written, For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we are regarded and counted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors [a]and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things [impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers,
39 Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
